NB: Camera heeft bedenkingen bij deze quote. 
Amnon Kapeliouk was een joodse journalist voor  Le Monde.  
Volgens Camera doelt Menachem Begin ( de uitvinder van het terrorisme: King David Hotel) hier uitsluitend op terroristen: dàt zijn beesten. 
Menachem Begin was in 1982 Libanon binnen gevallen, zogenaamd om Palestijnse terroristen mores te leren, maar in werkelijkheid ging het om water, terrein, invloed etc. 
Ben Gurion had Libanon al veel eerder willen binnen vallen. Zie : Livia Rokach

Ik wil deze quote als incorrect schrappen: Hij zei niet dat Palestijnen beesten zijn. 
Hij zei dat Terroristen beesten zijn.
Maar laten we dan ook deze uitspraak  als waarheid aannemen:  Joden en Israeli's zijn geen beesten die op twee poten lopen, maar de politici die Gaza en Sabra en Shatilla en andere gruweldaden als Deir Yassin op hun geweten hebben, zijn dat wel.

Ook deze quote wordt bestreden. Niet door Camera, maar in een ingezonden brief van de Israelische  consul in New York,  in de NY Times in 1988. 
Die weerlegging is echter niet overtuigend. De schrijver meldt waar het beeld van de 'grasshopper' vandaan komt. En daar zal hij best gelijk in hebben. Maar daarmee is Yitzak Shamir's verdere uitspraak ( zie boven) niet uit de wereld. Op het kapotslaan van die grasshoppers gaat de consul in het geheel niet in.

NB: Deze uitspraak wordt bestreden door Camera. Ik zal de quote laten staan, als waarschuwing dat niet alle quotes correct hoeven te zijn.  Ik heb nu niet de tijd om te achterhalen of de quote misschien tòch juist is, maar schrap zonder probleem deze quote.  
Er blijven er immers voldoend over om de mentaliteit en policy van Israel te tonen.

(Certainly the FBI's cover-up of the Israeli spy ring/phone tap scandal suggests that Mr. Sharon may not have been joking.)


Camera bestrijdt dat deze uitspraak ooit op de Kol Yisrael radio is uitgezonden. [ zie (***) ]
Ze zegt dat de journalist van Kol die altijd de kabinetsvergaderingen verslaat voor Kol zei dat
"he never made such a broadcast and that Sharon never made such a statement. "
Beide partijen (the pro-Hamas American group Islamic Association for Palestine enerzijds en Camera anderzijds ) hebben geen verder bewijs.
Er is geen geluidsopname van de radiouitzending beschikbaar, zover ik weet. 


Laten we daarom voorlopig maar aannemen dat de uitspraak niet is bewezen.


Een andere zaak is natuurlijk de vraag òf Israel inderdaad de baas in in Amerika.
Vrij algemeen wordt aangenomen dat dit zeker voor wat betreft de Midden Oosten politiek , juist is. 
Laten we het zo formuleren: In de regering Bush jr. kreeg de Israel Lobby zeker in 85% van de gevallen haar zin.  Bij Obama niet veel minder.  
De meeste 'strijd' is voor de bühne, juist om de enorme invloed van Israel te camoufleren. 


Israel ontvangt 6 miljard $ per jaar van de VS. Terwijl Israel een bijzonder sterk leger heeft en voor Amerika geen voordelen biedt. Wel nadelen. 
Als U 'The Israel Lobby" leest of bekijkt ziet U hoe enorm de Israelische invloed is. ( VPRO ) ( extracts )
Robert Zelikow heeft gezegd dat de inval in Irak niet ten bate van Amerika was, maar ten bate van Israel.  Als de Amerikaanse belastingbetaler dat zou weten, zou hij dan die inval in Irak steunen?  Nee, natuurlijk.  Israel heeft Het Congres in zijn macht, dat is duidelijk. 
Inhoudelijk is de uitspraak van Sharon dus de waarheid, hoewel we geen bewijs hebben dat hij de uitspraak deed. 


En dat is het enige dat telt.

Camera bestrijdt de juisteheid van deze quote door te stellen dat hij nergens in de New York Times is terug te vinden. Betekent dit dat hij onderdaad in Yediot Ahronot van 13 april 1983 staat ?

Dit citaat wordt betwist door Camera.  Het citaat zou uit het Koenig Report komen.
Nu is dat Report welliswaar een geheim Rapport aan de Israelische regering (in 1976 door o.a. Koenig opgesteld) en destijdfs uitgelekt, maar het is nergens te lezen op internet. 
Er is één versie van in omloop als boek bij Amazon, maar die is geschreven door een arabische docent aan een Israelische universiteit.  Voor die versie geef ik geen cent. 
Maar goed: het citaat kan niet bevestigd worden, en dus zullen we het als 'twijgfelachtig' moeten klasseren.
Of het inhoudelijk ook 'twijfelachtig' is?  Nee, dat niet natuurlijk. Lees het dagboek van oud premier Moshe Sharett, waar Livia Rokach haar boek 'Israels Sacret Terrorism' op baseert, en U zult zien dat aan de inhoudelijke juistheid van de quote niet hoeft te worden getwijfeld. Deze quote 56 is volgens Camera 'uit de context gehaald. Mij overtuigt het niet, maar oordeelt U zelf: 


Investigation: While nothing was found in the source given, there was an account in the following day’s edition of the Jerusalem Post. This remark is completely removed from its context to make it sound racist. In fact, Katsav was specifically talking about the brutal murders by Palestinian terrorists of two young schoolboys. The remains of Kobi Mandel and Yossi Ish-Ran, who had played hooky from school to explore a cave, were found on May 9, 2001. The Jerusalem Post clearly placed Katsav’s words in that context:

President Moshe Katsav said yesterday that Israel would never stoop to the brutality the Palestinians displayed in the stoning to death of two Tekoa teenagers this week.

"There is a huge gap between us and our enemies - not just in ability but in morality, culture, sanctity of life, and conscience," Katsav told reporters at Beit Hanassi.

"We would never stoop to the kind of brutality inflicted on the victims in Tekoa and Ofra," he added. "They're our neighbors here, but it seems as if at a distance of a few hundred meters away, there are people who don't belong to our continent, to our world, but actually belong to a different galaxy."

Recent developments in the region have exposed the Reagan administration's complicity in the 1982 Israeli invasion of Lebanon,2 which was calculated to produce results deemed beneficial both to American strategic interests and to Israeli expansionist goals. The interests of the Reagan administration and lsrael's Likud government coalesced around three objectives: the destruction of the Palestinian infrastructure in Lebanon, the redrawing of the political map in Lebanon, and the reduction of Syria to manageable proportions. Pax Americana and pax Israelica were to be realized through the campaign cynically dubbed "Peace for Galilee."
The 1982 "operation," as well as its predecessor, the "Litani Operation" of 1978, were part of the long-standing Zionist strategy for Lebanon and Palestine, which this transition of the Sharett diary illuminates. In fact,that strategy, formulated and applied during the 1950s, had been envisaged at least four decades earlier, and attempts to implement it are still being carried out three decades later. On November 6, 1918, a committee of British mandate officials and Zionist leaders put forth a suggested northern boundary for a Jewish Palestine "from the North Litani River up to Banias." In the following year, at the Paris peace conference, the Zionist movement proposed boundaries that would have included the Lebanese district of Bint Jubayl and all the territories up to the Litani River. The proposal emphasized the "vital importance of controlling all water resources up to their sources."
During the Paris conference, Chaim Weizmann and David Ben Gurion (who later became, respectively, lsrael's first president and first prime minister) attempted to persuade Patriarch Hayik, who headed the Lebanese delegation, to abandon South Lebanon in return for a promise of technical and financial assistance to develop the area to the north, which they hoped, would become a Christian state.

''Death by Stone and by Bullet'' (editorial, April 10) quotes Israel's Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir as comparing Palestinians to insects, saying that ''rioters will be crushed 'like grasshoppers.' '' Mr. Shamir was misquoted and his intention was taken out of context.
The Prime Minister, on the dedication of a new tourist site in the ancient Herodian fortress (where Jews fought against the Romans in the first century), stated: ''From this mountain we see not only the past but also the present. Some people are running wild down below, some want to sabotage what we are building, what we have built and what we have established. There are those who say that Jews are invaders in this country, aliens, and that the true owners of the land are the rioters, the murderers and the terrorists, who seek to destroy any remnant of the Jewish people in the land of Israel. We say to them, when we look from here on the thousands of years of our past and all that we have established in the present - that they are as grasshoppers in our sight. The age-old Jewish people, inspired by the spirit of Israel, will overcome all its enemies.''The term ''grasshoppers,'' or ''hagavim'' in Hebrew, is used in a metaphorical sense, based on the biblical story of the 12 spies sent by Moses to ''spy out the land.'' When they returned they reported that the country indeed flowed with ''milk and honey,'' but that they were terrified by the giants who lived there. I feel sure the text of Mr. Shamir's remarks makes his intention clear. The metaphorical use of this term is meant to illustrate the proportion of the disturbances and their effects, and not in any way to dehumanize the residents of Judea, Samaria and Gaza, as you imply. It also stresses that with the perspective of Israel's history, both past and current, Israel does not feel intimidated by the recent riots.

The following is an example of statements misquoted, taken out of context or otherwise manipulated to present a distorted view of Zionist intentions and actions. The misquotes are found in op-eds in campus newpapers and mainstream press as well as on anti-Israel websites. 

MISQUOTE:

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon as quoted in an op-ed by nationally syndicated columnist Georgie Anne Geyer, allegedly said at an Israeli Cabinet meeting in autumn, 2001 and reported by Kol Yisrael radio:

“Don't worry about American pressure, we control America.” 

“Don't worry about American pressure on Israel, we, the Jewish people control America, and the Americans know it.” 

FACT:

These quotes originated with the pro-Hamas American group Islamic Association for Palestine in an Oct. 13, 2001 press release, which claimed its source as Israeli radio Kol Yisrael:

According [to] the Israeli Hebrew radio, Col Yisrael Wednesday, Peres warned Sharon that refusing to heed incessant American requests for a cease-fire with the Palestinians would endanger Israeli interests and turn the US against us. At this point, a furious Sharon reportedly turned toward Peres, saying “ . . . I want to tell you something clear, don't worry about American pressure on Israel, we the Jewish people control America, and the Americans know it.”… 
Elsewhere in the press release, the quote was repeated, albeit slightly altered to: “we control America.” 

CAMERA received confirmation from Kol Yisrael political correspondent Yoni Ben-Menachem, who reports on Cabinet meetings, that he never made such a broadcast and that Sharon never made such a statement.

The Moslim Student Union unabashedly used a fake quote to promote their Anti-Zionism Week. 
The publicity material included the following alleged quote attributed to former Israeli Prime Minister David Ben Gurion: "We must use terror, assassination, intimidation land confiscation, and the cutting of all social services to rid the Galilee of its Arab population."

Phil Schlesinger, a UC Irvine student, requested a source for the alleged statement. In a June 2 email, MSU representative Fatima Ibrahim claimed that Ben-Gurion made the statement to his General Staff in May 1948, and she cited the "Koenig Report," a leaked 1976 policy report by Israel Koenig, the Northern District Commissioner of Israel’s Interior Ministry.

In a second email that day, she advised Schlesinger to "read the memorandum closely and if you still can’t find it, you can tell me and I will bring the whole memorandum with the quote pointed out."

CAMERA provided Schlesinger with the "Koenig Report" which does not contain the alleged statement or any other by Ben-Gurion. When confronted with this information, Ibrahim revised her story: 
first of all I am not going to spend time 1 week before finals to search for the quote (which is your responsibility)...the quote is a famous quote that can be looked up in many books such as "BEN-GURION, A BIOGRAPHY", by Michael Ben-Zohar [sic].

"Remember," she added, "that the Koenig Report was your initial suggestion, which is not where WE got it from." 
CAMERA contacted Bar-Zohar, who confirmed that the "quote definitely isn’t" in his book. Schlesinger requested that the MSU retract the quote, but the group has so far refused. (Camera )

Investigation--Example 2: Internet hate sites, as well as Fisk, attribute this derogation of Palestnians as “two-legged beasts” to former Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin. The source generally given is:

Indeed, the radical French-Israeli journalist, Amnon Kapeliouk, did attribute such a quote to Begin in his New Statesman article criticizing Israel’s invasion of Lebanon. The author posited: 

For this reason the government has gone to extraordinary lengths to dehumanise the Palestinians. Begin described them in a speech in the Knesset as "beasts walking on two legs".

However, further investigation by CAMERA reveals that the actual speech upon which Kapeliouk based his quote, as well as news reports at the time demonstrate that the journalist distorted the quote, giving it a completely different tone and meaning. Begin was talking, not about "the Palestinians" but about terrorists who target children within Israel. 

On June 8, 1982, Begin addressed the Knesset in response to a no-confidence motion over Israel's invasion of Lebanon. He talked about defending the children of Israel, and according to a June 9, 1982 AP report, “his voice quaver[ed] with anger and sadness.” According to the minutes of the session, Begin stated:

The children of Israel will happily go to school and joyfully return home, just like the children in Washington, in Moscow, and in Peking, in Paris and in Rome, in Oslo, in Stockholm and in Copenhagen. The fate of... Jewish children has been different from all the children of the world throughout the generations. No more. We will defend our children. If the hand of any two-footed animal is raised against them, that hand will be cut off, and our children will grow up in joy in the homes of their parents.

Kapeliouk neither recanted nor apologized for his deception. 

Summary: Distortion by an Israeli critic of a Begin speech discussing terrorism and terrorists.

Investigation: The quote is found on numerous anti-Israel sites, in addition to MIFTAH’s, but the facts do not check out. While Shlomo Lahat was indeed re-elected as mayor of Tel Aviv in 1983, no record was found of any “Chairman Heilbrun.” The quote was traced to a 1988 book, The Hidden History of Zionism, by radical Marxist Ralph Schoenman (dismissed by mainstream historians as a crazed conspiracy theorist), and is one of many bogus quotes in the book attributed to Israeli leaders. According to Schoenman’s footnote, the quote by Heilbrun was hearsay relayed to him in private conversations:

Needless to say, Schoenman’s scholarship, upon which many anti-Israel Web sites depend, leaves much wanting. CAMERA contacted former Mayor Lahat who attested that he has never employed, known or heard of any such person as “Chairman Heilbrun,” and that the reported incident never took place. Lahat also emphasized that he would never allow any of his employees to make such statements, as it completely contradicts his own sentiments about Palestinians.
